Product Description
"Perfect English Cottage" explores 18 inspirational homes that celebrate the best of cottage style in the English countryside. The book looks at the decorating and design solutions that make the cottages as attractive inside as out, as well as practical and comfortable to live in. Bestselling author Ros Byam Shaw takes a fresh look at this perennially appealing style, which she divides into five chapters: Character, Holiday, Romance, Simplicity and Elegance. The featured homes are incredibly varied, from a tiny house with exposed beams to a pared-down Georgian gem, to a picture-perfect cottage with roses over the door-and plenty more adorning the interior. Each section ends with a Get The Look page with ideas for recreating the style in your own home.

5 out of 5 stars The Perfection of Imperfection   March 27, 2010

Does anybody do cottage better than the English? If you love cottage style, and want to see diverse and authentic examples of original cottage style, this book is a great place to start. There is a perfection in the authenticity of imperfect but real rooms which we love. These rooms display the personality of their owners, as good style does. It's a visual treat for those who adore cottage style and want to learn from those who originated it and yes, perfected it in all of its slightly disheveled and inviting imperfection. I love the quality of this book.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect book about English cottages   May 5, 2010

Delightful book about authentic, current cottage living. The author does admit early in the book, that our romanticized image of English cottages was not the reality to the poor landless families who resided in one-room cottages over 100 years ago. Those squalid abodes have mostly been demolished. What rose up in their place are the lovely homes that come to our minds when we imagine English cottages. That architecture, hodgepodge "decorating" style, those gardens and that way of life that the British are now struggling to preserve, is what this book covers so well. The pictures are outstanding and the descriptions clear and well-developed. The book will be treasured by those of us who dream of this idyllic lifestyle.

5 out of 5 stars Love it, love it   July 25, 2010

A real treat for lovers of English cottage style. One of the best books I've seen. Don't expect "staged" rooms. These are real, lived in houses; shabby and wonderful!

I get so use to looking at magazine, staged rooms, that I have forgotten what real homes look like. This book gives you real cottage. Perfect English Cottage is about the quintessential charming, cozy, country inspired home.

I love the size of this book (9" x 11"). I actually chose this book based on the cover. It is so cheerful, cozy and bright. There are twice as many pictures as there are pages. The photographs are spectacular. The book is divided into 5 chapters; Romance, Character, Holiday, Simplicity and Elegance. At the end of each chapter there is a useful review picking up on ideas and also a comprehensive directory of sources. You can get the Perfect English Cottage look for yourself!

This book with it's pictures and stories took me to a place that I want to have in my home all the time. I can picture the cobblestone lined streets, thatched roofs and roses around the door. This book makes a great addition to any home enthusiast's collection!
