Product Description
Details bring a room to life—and House Beautiful shows how to make every room special by accentuating exquisite finishing touches. Packaged in the same appealing format as House Beautiful The Apartment Book, this gorgeous compendium showcases the magazine’s favorite looks and explains exactly why they work. Each chapter covers a different room, focusing on such eye-catching features as colorful crockery on open kitchen shelves, elaborate glass chandeliers shimmering with light in the dining room, scenic wall treatments, and crystal beads sparkling on pillows. From glamorous to minimalist, there are beautiful examples for every taste, and each chapter has an introduction, a gallery of photos, tips, and three sidebars focusing on popular decorating styles. Quotes from top designers appear throughout, providing their special, professional insight.

| Customer Reviews: How to finish a room... January 1, 2010 L. M. Keefer (Connecticut) 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
For many of us, finishing a room and transforming it from ordinary to wow takes a lot of skill and artistry. What's the magic behind the rooms we love? This book analyzes rooms that have appeared in House Beautiful in recent years and explains what elements make them stylish. It deconstructs their individual style so in the rooms you see that you love, you can utilize the design principles and finishing touches the room's designer used in your own home and rooms. This is a great reference book for those who want to know what designers know: what are the finishing details that make rooms uniquely beautiful.

A great book full of very interesting ideas and brilliant details that you could take and make it work for your own space and/or house. I usually bookmark the details and patterns and use them when creating a bigger scale picture. It works wonderfully!
Gorgeous, inspiring pictures February 23, 2010 H. Caspi (Philadelphia, PA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This book contains beautiful pictures. It's really "contemporary meets traditional", in the sense that it's not totally uniform in style, and there are different styles that hint at either direction, all in very good taste.
I used this book to get a feel for accessories and colors. Someone else might want more particular advice within the book about the color they used, names of companies, and other more direct advices. In my view, the "practical" aspect is scarce in the book. However, if you want inspiring beautiful pictures to show you how colors, textures and furnitures can be combined, this is a great source.
What a disappointment! July 6, 2010 Brenda J. Merritt (Jonesborough, TN) I had certainly expected a much better book from House Beautiful. Everything looked oh so dated and frumpy. Surely there were better examples in the magazine's archives than those used in this poorly done book.
