Product Description

For anyone designing a new house, refurbishing an old one, or simply redecorating, the newest addition to the House Beautiful Workshop series shows how to perfect those finishing touches and distinctive details.

Elegant fireplaces, beautiful ceilings, exquisite moldings: the fine details bring a house to life. And homeowners armed with It’s All in the Details have a welcome resource for making the right decisions for their particular spaces. Through breathtaking images—fully annotated, and with authentic examples of the most important American styles from Colonial to modern—it goes room by room, revealing how professionals use moldings, baseboards, wainscoting, picture rails, doorframes, decorative mantels, and other embellishments to create character. And that’s not all: faucets, door hardware, floor and window treatments, and other essential design elements get illustrated coverage too, while photos showcase authentic color palettes for different periods and design approaches.

Whatever the style and period of your house, these inspiring pages will enlighten you on the myriad trims and hardware that give a home ambience—and increase its value.

3 out of 5 stars Great book, but a repeat for House Beautiful avid readers   December 9, 2007

I would have given this book five stars...had it not been the first time I'd seen the material contained within it's cover. You see, I own several House Beautiful books that focus on decorating small homes/rooms. Unfortunately, MANY of the ideas in the book had beeen seen before in House Beautiful's other small-home decorating volumes and magazines. Alas, I felt as if I was re-reading a book that I'd JUST purchased!

Although the photographs are indeed lovely and some of the suggestions practical and quite useful, ultimately you need to SEE this book at a bookstore in order to give it a quick once-through to be certain that you don't already have the images and information other similiar books by House Beautiful have contained. Several of the pictures looked familiar and sure enough...when I checked, they were indeed duplicates from previous works.

Essentially, if you don't already own a book of this fashion, it's a fabulous purchase that will be sure not to disappoint you, but check and re-check it's pages at your local bookstore if you are a regular House Beautiful customer.
